Former Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has heaped praise on Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo as the Blues prepare to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.
Pochettino noted that both midfielders, who joined during his time at Stamford Bridge, have now settled under current manager Enzo Maresca and are “performing very well.”
The Argentine tactician, who oversaw a turbulent single season in West London, recalled the challenges of working with a squad filled with young signings still trying to adapt to English football. Chelsea had brought in Caicedo and Fernández during his tenure, placing significant responsibility on their shoulders from the outset.
Reflecting on his Chelsea spell during an interview with newsmen, Pochettino explained:
“We both decided to split. I think my first season was about to stop a little bit.
“The plan was to build with new players, with players that had no experience in the Premier League.
“And then players that need to adapt, like Caicedo or Enzo, who were very young with too much responsibility from the first season.
“I think after they got experience, they started to show their quality. They are performing very well now.”
Pochettino’s comments come as Chelsea continue their push for consistency under Maresca, with Fernández and Caicedo emerging as key figures in the club’s midfield rebuild. The upcoming Wolves clash is expected to provide another major test of their progress this season.
