Members of the Plateau State National Assembly Caucus have expressed solidarity with the state government over recent violent incidents in parts of the state, pledging stronger collaboration to address insecurity in rural communities.
The lawmakers made the commitment during a visit to Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos on Friday, where they offered condolences over the deaths recorded in Zurak community, Wase Local Government Area, as well as attacks in Ratatis and Dorowa Babuje in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
Led by Hon. John Dafa’an, the caucus condemned the incidents and called for coordinated action between federal and state authorities to prevent further loss of lives. They also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
Hon. Dafa’an extended sympathies to families affected by the mining tragedy in Zurak, where several workers reportedly died following a suspected gas-related incident at a mining site. He expressed support for ongoing investigations and stressed the need for accountability and improved safety measures in mining activities.
The lawmakers also decried the recent violence in Barkin Ladi, which left multiple casualties and disrupted economic activities in affected communities. They appealed for calm among residents and encouraged community leaders to support peace initiatives.
Reaffirming their commitment, the caucus said it would back legislative and executive measures aimed at restoring stability across the state, while calling for stronger partnerships with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and security agencies.
In response, Governor Mutfwang welcomed the delegation and described the visit as encouraging amid challenging times. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive governance, stressing that collaboration between all stakeholders remains essential to ending recurring attacks.
The governor also commended community leaders for their ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and coexistence, urging residents to remain united in the pursuit of lasting security and development across Plateau State.
