Reality television star Phyna has spoken candidly about her upbringing, describing a childhood marked by emotional struggles and limited support.
The winner of the Big Brother Naija Level Up season revealed in a recent interview that her birth name is Blessing, a name she says she has come to dislike because it does not reflect the experiences she had growing up.
According to Phyna, the meaning behind the name felt disconnected from her early life, which she said lacked the “blessings” it suggests.
The reality TV personality explained that she frequently sought affection and validation from family members, friends, and romantic partners during her formative years but often felt rejected or criticised.
Reflecting on her teenage years, she described her upbringing as challenging, noting that she did not enjoy many of the opportunities and support systems available to some of her peers.
Despite the hardships, Phyna said she remained confident that her circumstances would eventually change.
She recalled repeatedly telling members of her extended family that she would one day achieve fame and financial success, even during moments when she faced harsh treatment.
According to her, those early declarations were driven by a deep belief that her life would improve.
Phyna’s journey from a difficult upbringing to becoming a national television star has since made her one of the most recognised personalities from the Big Brother Naija franchise.
