Popular Nigerian photographer and biker Orowole Samuel Kolapo, widely known as Kola Onifoto, has died following a motorcycle accident in the Kara area of Lagos.
He was 35.
Accident and Hospitalisation
According to reports, Kolapo was involved in a collision on Sunday, March 1, 2026, while riding his motorcycle. He had reportedly set out on a trip and shared a post on Facebook hours before the crash, celebrating long-distance riders across Nigeria and beyond.
Following the accident, he was initially taken to the emergency unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps at 7UP, Ojota. He was later transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba for further treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.
A Growing Online Presence
Kolapo was known for his photography work and active lifestyle as a biker and travel enthusiast. In addition to his creative pursuits, he worked as an e-hailing driver.
Sources indicated that he had recently purchased the motorcycle. The move reportedly followed a relocation from Lagos to Otta, Ogun State, after receiving a quit notice from his landlady, although he continued working in Lagos.
Family Statement and Tributes
The Orowale family confirmed his passing in an official statement, describing him as a pillar of strength whose warmth and generosity impacted many lives.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Kolapo Orowale, popularly known as Kola Onifoto, who lost his life on the 1st of March,” the family said.
They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of prayers and support while requesting privacy during the mourning period. Burial arrangements, they added, will be announced in due course.
News of his death has sparked widespread tributes online, with friends and followers remembering him as kind-hearted and dedicated to his craft.
