Award-winning singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has revealed that his greatest fear in life is poverty, not death.
Speaking on the Nancy Isime Show, Mr P shared memories of his early life, describing the challenges his family faced. He recounted how their single-room apartment was demolished after the landlord sold the property, leaving his family in a precarious situation.
“I am not afraid of death. The only thing I fear is poverty, of being broke. I have tasted it before,” he said.
Mr P described living in a boys’ quarter with six brothers and two sisters sharing a single-bedroom apartment, separated by a curtain. “We were all in the house when a bulldozer came and started demolishing it. We tried pleading for more time to plan our relocation, but it was too late,” he recalled.
The singer emphasised that his early experiences with financial hardship shaped his perspective on success and the value of stability.
“Having lived through that, I never want to go back to those days. It motivates me to work hard and secure my future,” he added.
