Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has revealed that his original dream was to become a professional footballer before music changed the course of his life.
In a recent Instagram post, the former member of the iconic duo P-Square reflected on his early days playing football while growing up in Jos.
Early Football Ambitions
Okoye recalled training at the Pepsi Football Academy, where he balanced his passion for sports with his growing interest in music.
According to him, his talent on the pitch earned him an opportunity to join Plateau United F.C., and he once dreamed of eventually playing professional football in Europe.
However, his career path took a different turn.
“I used to play football, but destiny chose the mic for me,” he wrote.
Success in Music
Although he left football behind, Okoye went on to achieve massive success in music alongside his twin brother Paul Okoye as part of P-Square.
The duo dominated Africa’s music scene for years with numerous hit songs before eventually pursuing individual careers.
Solo Career and Personal Growth
Now performing as Mr P, Okoye says his solo journey has brought him both financial success and personal peace.
Reflecting on his journey, he described himself as an established and successful musician who ultimately embraced the path destiny chose for him.
His story, he said, is a reminder that life sometimes redirects dreams in unexpected but rewarding ways.
