Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has held a private meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, disclosed the engagement in a post on his official X handle late Thursday, sharing photos of himself with Jonathan.
“Today in Abuja, I met with my very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Obi wrote. “We had a fruitful closed-door meeting and discussed the state of our dear nation.”
While the details of their discussions remain under wraps, the meeting comes amid growing political speculation, especially following calls for Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election. The former president has yet to publicly respond to such appeals.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reported to be exploring ways to bring both Jonathan and Obi into its fold ahead of the next election cycle, as part of efforts to strengthen its chances of reclaiming power.
