Actress Peggy Ovire has formally denied actor Taye Arimoro’s allegation that she assaulted him on a movie set, dismissing his N100 million compensation demand as baseless. The rebuttal was issued through her legal representatives on Tuesday.
In the statement, Peggy’s lawyers described Taye’s account as “misleading” and “materially false,” accusing him of presenting a distorted version of the incident. They claimed that the actor was invited back to set but instead became confrontational, allegedly attacking the Production Manager and head-butting Peggy’s driver, who sustained injuries.
According to the legal team, multiple eyewitnesses have already provided statements to the police supporting this version of events. They also allege that Taye attempted to flee the location, and any effort to restrain him was simply to prevent him from escaping before officers arrived.
Peggy maintains she never physically assaulted Taye and insists the only contact occurred when she “lightly pushed” him after he allegedly attempted to deflate her car tyres.
The statement further dismissed Taye’s claims of mob action, broken jaw, harassment, and other forms of violence as fabricated. Peggy’s team noted that the matter is currently being reviewed by the police and the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
They also rejected the N100 million demand outright, warning that they may file their own petitions for assault, defamation, and disruption of production activities.
Reacting to the controversy on Instagram, Peggy wrote, “My silence should not be taken for weakness… the truth will unfold.”
