Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the people of the state to draw lessons from the recently lifted six-month emergency rule, stressing that “the costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war.”
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Governor Fubara reflected on the political turbulence that led President Bola Tinubu to declare emergency rule on March 18, 2025, following a prolonged leadership crisis in the state.
He explained that his decision to fully cooperate with federal authorities—and resist pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the suspension of democratic institutions—was guided by a commitment to safeguard peace, stability, and progress in Rivers State.
“The past six months have been enormously challenging, but they have taught us valuable lessons about unity, patience, and the power of dialogue. Nothing has been irretrievably lost; there remains ample opportunity for reconciliation, inclusiveness, and meaningful adjustments,” Fubara said.
The governor called on political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to see this moment as a fresh beginning rather than a continuation of division.
“Let us rise above bitterness, rebuild trust, and foster inclusiveness. Together, we can secure a peaceful and prosperous Rivers State for all,” he declared.
