The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the shocking call for foreign intervention in Nigeria made by the newly declared factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki. Addressing newsmen amid the deepening crisis within his party, Turaki urged foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria over claims of “Christian genocide” and threats to democracy. Such an irresponsible call for foreign invasion is reckless, unpatriotic, and unacceptable.
For someone who was proclaimed National Chairman only 72 hours ago by a faction of an already fragmented party, Turaki appeared desperate, confused, incoherent, and evidently overwhelmed by the magnitude of his party’s internal strife.
Nigerians expected Turaki’s first course of action to be a sincere effort to reconcile the warring factions in the PDP an attempt to restore unity through dialogue, negotiation, and genuine leadership. Instead, his very first public action was to advocate for foreign powers to intervene in Nigeria, all as a response to a crisis that is entirely internal and self-inflicted. This behavior is not only shameful but also poses a dangerous threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty and national security.
Even during the PDP’s own 16-year rule marked by heavy-handed suppression of opposition there was never a call for foreign intervention to resolve partisan conflicts. Turaki’s statement clearly exposes the PDP’s inability to manage its internal contradictions and effectively serves as a final confirmation of the party’s collapse.
The growing desperation of the PDP and its leaders has now become undeniable. Turaki’s remarks reveal the dangerous lengths to which they are willing to go including inviting foreign interference on Nigerian soil to advance their own misguided political objectives.
The party urge Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support for our great Party and for the visionary leadership of President Bola Tinubu as they continue the vital work of building progress, stability, and prosperity across all sectors of national life.
