The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its intention to take legal action against a group of Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday.
In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, described the lawmakers’ defection as a direct challenge to democratic processes and an attempt to undermine the mandate they secured under the PDP platform.
“The recent re-defection of certain legislators is deeply concerning. These individuals have repeatedly shifted allegiances, raising serious questions about their commitment to the people they represent,” the statement read.
The PDP accused the lawmakers of acting in the interest of external influences rather than the electorate, warning that their actions have hindered the progress of democracy in the state. The party affirmed that it would invoke relevant constitutional provisions to reclaim the mandate allegedly compromised by the defection.
Comrade Ememobong further urged party members in Rivers State to remain united and focused, stressing that the PDP is committed to rebuilding the party on principles of fairness, inclusiveness, and accountability.
“Despite these setbacks, our focus remains on strengthening democratic governance and ensuring that the party continues to serve the interests of the people,” he added.
