The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed allegations by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, claiming that his signature was forged on official correspondence sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, described the forgery allegation as baseless and misleading, insisting that Senator Anyanwu personally signed the letters in question.
The letters, which were transmitted to INEC, contained official notification of the date, time, and venue of the party’s upcoming elective convention scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“The National Secretary duly signed the letters to INEC,” Ologunagba stated, adding that there was clear evidence of his active participation in the planning process, including communication with other members of the NWC and his involvement as Secretary of the Contact and Mobilisation Committee for the convention.
He further presented documentary evidence and correspondence between Anyanwu and other party leaders to substantiate the claim that the documents were legitimate and personally endorsed by him.
Senator Anyanwu had earlier petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector-General of Police, alleging that his signature had been forged. However, the PDP insists the claim is unfounded and intended to mislead the public.
“The PDP remains focused on its preparations for a transparent and successful convention,” Ologunagba emphasized, urging members and supporters to disregard distractions and continue to work towards the unity and progress of the party.
