The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) notably absent.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the commission’s Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Musa Olurode, confirmed that candidates from 14 political parties have been cleared to contest in the upcoming poll.
The parties whose candidates made the final list include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Olurode explained that the publication of the final list is in accordance with the timetable and schedule of activities earlier released by the commission ahead of the election.
He noted that only the 14 listed political parties successfully conducted their primaries and uploaded the names and personal particulars of their candidates, including their running mates, within the deadline stipulated by INEC.
Last month, the commission disclosed that several parties failed to meet the requirements and timelines for candidate nomination, resulting in their exclusion from the final list.
The governorship election in Osun State is scheduled to hold on August 8, 2026.
