The Nyesom Wike-led faction of the PDP has constituted a National Caretaker Committee to manage party operations as the current NWC’s tenure ends.
The decision was taken at the 104th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Sunday. The 13-member Caretaker Committee is chaired by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu as secretary. Other members include National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), National Organising Secretary Hon. Umar M. Bature, Dr. Kyari Grema, Hon. Janguda Haruna Mohammed, Barr. Okechukwu Osuana, Senators Nwogu Olaka and Sandy Onor, Prof. Adenike Ogunse, Hon. Bisi Kolawole, Engr. Deji Doherty, and Dr. Ibrahim Bala Aboki.
The committee is mandated to run the party for 60 days, conduct pending congresses, and oversee the national convention. The move comes amid tensions with the Turaki-led PDP faction, backed by several state governors.
BoT Meeting Endorses Faction’s Leadership
The factional Board of Trustees (BoT) met on Sunday to provide guidance and stability. Attendees included BoT chairman Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, factional national chairman Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, factional national secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, several state chairmen, and National Assembly members.
Ohuabunwa outlined the faction’s roadmap, emphasizing adherence to party law, democratic principles, and backing for the faction’s NWC. “We are going to work with this NWC, encourage them, and support them to ensure that decisions align with the law and the guidance of our great party”, he said.
He noted progress in restructuring PDP chapters in states affected by internal crises and setting up credible caretaker committees to prepare for transparent congresses and the convention.
“These steps aim to build trust, strengthen internal structures, and ensure our party remains a model of fairness and inclusiveness in Nigeria’s democratic space”, Ohuabunwa added.
He called for unity, positioning the BoT as the guardian of PDP’s core values. “BoT is the conscience of the party; we are the moral compass. We must ensure the party stands firm in obedience to federal and party laws, as well as INEC guidelines”, he said.
Acknowledging logistical challenges faced by some members, he assured that the meeting would proceed peacefully. “We will hold this meeting in peace, and at the end of the day, we return safely. I appreciate your dedication and commitment despite short notice and travel challenges”, he concluded.
