The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has characterized the recent defection of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as the result of circumstances beyond his full control.
Ini Ememobong, spokesperson for a faction of the party, said the governor’s departure reflects “a victim of circumstance, which is vicarious, because every problem is human-caused and therefore requires a human solution.”
Ememobong explained that the party’s leadership should have acted decisively as internal challenges emerged. “The challenge is that, at times, we attempt to manage problems without fully confronting them, only to find ourselves overwhelmed. Time alone does not solve issues — action by leadership does,” he said.
He added that the situation had escalated since 2023, despite ongoing negotiations aimed at resolving internal disagreements. “When the decline started, the leadership hoped that negotiations and calmer passions could lead to reconsideration.
Unfortunately, matters were only formally concluded at the convention in Ibadan, leaving Governor Adeleke caught in circumstances he could not fully control.”
According to Ememobong, Adeleke’s defection is thus “vicarious in nature — arising from leadership actions and decisions — and he cannot entirely extricate himself from the outcome.”
