Several suspects arrested in connection with last month’s daring $102 million jewellery heist at the Louvre Museum appeared before magistrates in Paris on Saturday, prosecutors told AFP.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office did not disclose the exact number of suspects presented in court.
The audacious robbery—carried out in broad daylight—saw thieves armed with power tools breach a gallery inside the world-renowned museum and escape with valuable jewels in just seven minutes.
French authorities initially announced the arrest of two suspects shortly after the incident. Both men were charged with theft and criminal conspiracy after what Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau described on Wednesday as “partial admissions” during questioning.
Investigators believe they are the pair who physically entered the gallery while two accomplices waited outside.
This week, police arrested five additional suspects, including a man described as a prime figure in the operation.
The arrests were made in Paris and surrounding locations, particularly the northern suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, a known hotspot for organised criminal networks.
Despite the growing number of arrests, the stolen jewels have yet to be recovered.
