Veteran Nollywood actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has announced a major shift in his public identity, unveiling “Bondu Alaska” as his new stage name.
The development comes in the wake of a dispute with Wale Adenuga Productions over the use of the widely recognised “Papa Ajasco” character.
Ayoyinka made the announcement in a video shared on Instagram, where he thanked Nigerians for their support following a recent interview that drew widespread attention. He also pledged to embrace a fresh start under his new persona.
Addressing fans, the actor introduced himself as Bondu Alaska and expressed appreciation for the encouragement he has received, assuring supporters that he would not disappoint them in this new phase of his career.
As part of the transition, he has updated his social media presence, changing his Instagram handle to reflect the new name and inviting fans, brands, and collaborators to engage with him under the Bondu Alaska identity.
The rebranding appears to be linked to legal and branding limitations surrounding the “Papa Ajasco” role, a character closely associated with the long-running comedy series created by Wale Adenuga.
Adenuga recently addressed the situation, dismissing claims that Ayoyinka is facing financial hardship as inaccurate. He maintained that the actor has benefited from his association with the brand, including material support, while emphasising the importance of safeguarding the Papa Ajasco franchise.
He also clarified that actors involved in the production are free to pursue other opportunities outside the show, provided the brand’s identity remains protected.
