After two days of intense and entertaining cricket, Pakistan Shaheens have been crowned champions of the maiden Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Indoor Cricket Super-Six Tournament, held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The Shaheens clinched the title after edging CCA Tigers by eight runs in a thrilling final that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Meanwhile, Pakistan Embassy Eagles secured third place in the nine-team competition, showcasing the growing competitiveness of indoor cricket in Nigeria.
It was a dominant outing for the Shaheens, who not only lifted the championship trophy but also claimed several individual honours. Itiaz Alam was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament, while Waqas Khan earned the Best Batter Award. Durotoye Gideon of CCA Tigers won Best Bowler, and Pankaj Kumar was recognised as the Best Fielder.
The indoor cricket format, officially recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC), features a six-a-side setup, offering a fast-paced and action-packed version of the traditional sport designed for smaller indoor venues.
Speaking on the success of the tournament, Emeka Igwilo, General Manager of the NCF, described it as a milestone in Nigeria’s cricket development and hinted at more innovations to come.
He said the introduction of the soft-ball indoor game will pave the way for “many other modified formats and cricket activities” in the 2026 sporting calendar, aimed at expanding participation and excitement around the sport nationwide.
