The Oyo State Police Command says it has dismantled a suspected goods diversion syndicate with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of items valued at ₦32 million.
The Command’s Monitoring Unit, Oyo Operational Base, acting on credible intelligence, raided a hideout in the Irepo area of Oyo Town, where two suspects identified as 40-year-old Olawale Kareem and 46-year-old Ogunbiyi Monday were arrested.
Police said the operation led to the recovery of an IVECO truck and trailer loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn allegedly diverted while being transported from Kaduna State. The recovered goods are estimated to be worth about ₦32 million.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, revealed that the suspects are members of a syndicate involved in diverting goods for illegal financial gains. Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the group and recover more diverted consignments.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, commended the operatives for their swift response and intelligence-driven operation, while warning criminals involved in economic sabotage to desist or face the full weight of the law.
