A new controller has taken charge of the leadership of the Oyo/Osun Area Customs Command following the redeployment of its former controller, Comptroller Gambo Aliyu, to the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Lagos.
The handover ceremony was held on Monday at the Operational Headquarters of the Command in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Delivering his maiden speech at the event, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Moses Adewole, expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, BA Adeniyi MFR, for the appointment.
He stated, “I wish to thank the Comptroller-General of Customs, BA Adeniyi MFR, and the entire management team for entrusting me with this mandate to lead this Command at its crucial moment.”
Adewole also expressed gratitude to Comptroller Gambo Aliyu for his exemplary leadership, dedication and remarkable contributions to the growth of the Command.
Also, he recognised the achievements of Aliyu in revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities during his tenure and wished him success in his new assignment.
Adewole assured that he would join hands with the officers and men of the Command in accomplishing the goals and aspirations of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“To the officers and men of the Oyo/Osun Customs Command, I am here not just to assume office, but to join hands with you in accomplishing the goals and aspirations of the Nigeria Customs Service,” Adewole said.
“I am going to work with all security agents in order to combat smuggling activities; you cannot do it alone,” Adewole added.
He noted that he would also promote training and retraining of officers and men of the Command towards sustaining professionalism in the Service, just as he emphasised collaboration with traditional rulers.
In his address during the ceremony, Aliyu appreciated officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, resilience and dedication to duty, which he acknowledged resulted in anti-smuggling successes.
“Working together, we intensified border surveillance, we intercepted prohibited goods, safeguarded local Industries and protected the national economy. The achievements we recorded in this regard remain a testament to your commitment and loyalty to the Nigeria Customs Service,” Aliyu said.
Aliyu, however, enjoined Adewole to build on the recorded achievements.
