The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has revealed that it has allocated a total of N8.18 billion to the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) in Ondo State for infrastructural development.
The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Mr. Sonny Echono, made this known during the inauguration of five landmark projects at the institution on Saturday as part of activities marking RUGIPO’s combined 12th to 23rd Convocation Ceremonies.
Represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, Echono said out of the 8.18bn allocated to the institution between 2011 and 2025, the polytechnic had so far accessed N5.57 billion, while the remaining N2.61 billion was tied to ongoing projects across the campus.
According to him, the newly inaugurated TETFund-sponsored projects — including the Faculty of Applied Sciences building, Faculty of Engineering Technology building, 250-seater twin lecture theatre, and the construction and furnishing of academic staff offices — are collectively worth over N1.7 billion.
Echono emphasized that the interventions reflect President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and academic excellence across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
He commended the management of RUGIPO for its prudent utilization of intervention funds, describing the quality of completed projects as a model for other polytechnics despite the nation’s economic challenges.
“I urge the institution to ensure proper maintenance of these facilities to sustain their lifespan and impact,” he added.
In his remarks, the Acting Rector of RUGIPO, Mr. Olorunwa Adegun, said the polytechnic has continued to uphold a tradition of accountability and excellence, ensuring that every intervention from TETFund translates into visible development.
Adegun expressed gratitude to TETFund for its transformative role in the institution’s growth, noting that the fund’s interventions have strengthened academic delivery and improved the learning environment.
He appealed for the inclusion of RUGIPO in the 2026 Special Intervention and Special High Impact Intervention, stressing that such consideration would enable the polytechnic to establish a modern health centre and build additional student hostels.
