Former Manchester United star, Owen Hargreaves, has identified the four defenders he considers the best full-backs currently operating in the Premier League — and according to him, every one of them plays for Arsenal.
Hargreaves singled out Dutch international Jurrien Timber as the standout performer among the group, noting that Timber’s influence has been instrumental to Arsenal’s dominant form this season. The Gunners sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, with their defensive strength forming a major part of their success.
During Arsenal’s recent clash with Brentford, manager Mikel Arteta deployed Ben White at right-back, where the English defender delivered another assured performance. On the opposite flank, summer signing Riccardo Calafiori continued his impressive run, keeping competition high and limiting opportunities for young talent Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Reflecting on Arsenal’s options, Hargreaves — who also represented Bayern Munich — praised the squad’s physicality and tactical versatility, qualities he believes distinguish them from other title challengers.
“I thought they’ve been looking comfortable all season,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.
“They have all these different options.
“I mean they probably have the four best full-backs in the country, all playing in one team, and probably the best goalkeeper as well.
“Then you’ve got Declan, [Martin] Zubimendi has been amazing, Odegaard, [Eberechi] Eze, the list goes on.
“Timber, I think is the best full-back in the Premier League this season, and I’m sure he can pop in there. He’s as strong as anything, and obviously Ben White can play in there.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Aston Villa, aiming to maintain their position at the summit of the table.
