More than 20 people are feared dead following a fresh attack on Doma “A” community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State’s Southern Senatorial District, raising renewed concerns over security in the area.
The Chairman of Faskari Local Government Council, Bala Ado, confirmed the incident to ARISE News in a phone interview, disclosing that several other residents sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack, while more than 100 people have been displaced from their homes.
According to him, the assault lasted for nearly three hours, beginning at about noon and continuing until around 3:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, as the attackers overran the community.
Ado also revealed that burial arrangements for those killed in the attack are expected to take place on Wednesday.
Faskari Local Government Area is among the frontline communities in Katsina State that had earlier entered into a communal peace agreement with armed bandits, a development that had raised hopes of relative calm and stability.
However, the latest violence has sparked fresh concerns over the durability and effectiveness of the peace process, as residents continue to grapple with recurring attacks, loss of lives, and displacement.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as investigations continue.
