Reactions have intensified across social media after CCTV footage emerged showing Nollywood actress Peggy Ovire physically assaulting actor Taye Arimoro on a movie set.
The controversy escalated on Wednesday when Arimoro took to Instagram to accuse the actress of detaining and attacking him during a late-night shoot. He claimed the incident occurred on Tuesday, alleging that Ovire insisted he film “two quick scenes” despite their contract ending at midnight.
According to Arimoro, he attempted to leave the location around 12 a.m. to rest, but Ovire allegedly ordered her crew and driver to block his vehicle and prevent him from exiting. He said he was then beaten for insisting on stopping work after the agreed time.
Ovie denied the claims, alleging instead that Arimoro assaulted her driver first. But the CCTV footage that surfaced online Thursday morning appears to contradict her account, showing the actress and her driver confronting and assaulting the actor in the presence of other crew members.
The video triggered a wave of condemnation from Nigerians who accused the actress of lying about the incident.
One user, @Linda_ify1, wrote: “Imagine a married woman treating someone’s son, husband, father like that… I really felt bad for Taye.”
Another user, @Olisa_Mani, commented: “So she was the aggressor? Pushing him while her boys deflated his tyres?”
@akwabekie added: “Peggy lied… CCTV has come out, and it shows she even assaulted the actor. She almost wrecked this guy’s career.”
Many others criticised the actress for allegedly intimidating a colleague and attempting to misrepresent the incident.
@buzzard737 questioned: “Why did she instruct her team to deflate his tyres? The estate security should have intervened from the onset.”
@PearlyBold wrote: “See the way she was pushing the guy, and that guy didn’t touch her.”
The Nollywood community continues to react to the incident, with calls for accountability and a thorough investigation into the altercation now dominating online discussions.
