The Osun State Government has heightened security vigilance across the state following rising banditry attacks in neighbouring states, Governor Ademola Adeleke announced on Saturday.
In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) platform, the governor assured that his administration has adopted proactive strategies to prevent any infiltration of criminal elements into Osun. He revealed that over the past three weeks, a series of high-level security meetings had been held with service chiefs and community stakeholders from border areas.
The statement read, “Dear good people of Osun State, Amidst the rising banditry attacks and security challenges in some of our neighbouring states, our government has taken proactive measures against any infiltration of bandits into our dear state. Over the last three weeks, we have held a series of security meetings with security chiefs and stakeholders in our border communities, and concrete actions are being taken to ensure vigilance and strengthen our capacity to repel any form of incursion.
“The Inspector General of Police, the Director General of State Security (DSS), the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have all given special attention to Osun state, with ongoing strategic security deployments across identified areas of concern across the state.
“Our security agencies remain fully on top of the situation. I appeal to us as a people to always provide credible information and promptly report any strange movements observed within our community. I have also directed the Amotekun security service to work closely with the police and other security agencies to further strengthen the safety and protection of our people.
“While we await the Supreme Court to rule on the local government matter, I urge everyone to remain law abiding as we are all resolved not to take the law into our own hands. On the impasse within the state judiciary, I remain optimistic that it will soon resolve its internal issues. As the Executive Governor of the state, I will not interfere in judicial matters.
“I appreciate the deep support our administration continues to receive from the people of Osun state. I encourage us all to be security conscious and to go about our lawful businesses without any fear. Our government remains with the people, committed to delivering good governance and democratic dividends across all sectors.”
