Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Iyiola Omisore, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Omisore made the announcement on Saturday via his verified account on X (formerly Twitter), stating that his formal declaration will be held on Monday, October 7, 2025, at the APC Secretariat in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Themed “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams,” the event is expected to draw party stakeholders, supporters, and political observers across the state.
“I believe strongly that together, we can restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for every son and daughter of Osun. This is not just my mission, it is a collective one,” Omisore stated in his announcement.
“I humbly invite you to join me as we take this bold step towards the Osun Rescue Mission 2026.”
A Familiar Face in Osun Politics
Omisore is no stranger to the Osun political landscape. He previously served as Deputy Governor from 1999 to 2003, and has made multiple attempts at the governorship seat.
In 2014, he contested the gubernatorial election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but was unsuccessful. He later defected to the APC, where he has remained a key political figure in the state.
His return to the race is expected to reshape the dynamics of the APC primary, positioning him as a top contender for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2026 polls.
