Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is scheduled to undergo an urgent MRI scan after sustaining a hamstring injury during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff defeat to DR Congo on Sunday.
Osimhen picked up the injury in the first half of the encounter at the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium and was replaced at halftime by Sevilla’s Akor Adams.
Nigeria struggled in his absence, eventually losing 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw across 120 minutes. The defeat means the Super Eagles will miss a second consecutive FIFA World Cup, having failed to qualify for Qatar 2022.
According to reports, Galatasaray’s medical team will conduct a full assessment upon his arrival in Istanbul. The club hopes to determine the severity of the injury ahead of their weekend clash with Gençlerbirliği.
The 26-year-old has been in strong form for Galatasaray across all competitions this season.
