As part of Operation Delta Sentinel, the Nigerian Navy has intercepted a large quantity of illegally refined petroleum in Rivers State and arrested eight individuals linked to the crime.
The operation targeted the Degema, Ogbogoro, and Ogbologo axis following actionable intelligence on illicit oil activities. Naval personnel from NNS Pathfinder intercepted two wooden boats carrying an estimated 44,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).

Eight suspects connected to the operation were apprehended, while several armed accomplices reportedly escaped upon sighting the naval team. The arrested individuals and the seized petroleum products have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Nigerian Navy said the raid aligns with directives from Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who has ordered intensified efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other maritime crimes.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Navy stated it will continue Operation Delta Sentinel through intelligence-led operations, increased patrols, and stronger coordination with other security agencies to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime resources and economic assets.
