Former Super Eagles head coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has urged the Nigerian national team to give their all when they face Benin Republic in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
The decisive encounter will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, as Nigeria fight to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The Super Eagles currently occupy third place in Group C with 14 points from nine matches. To secure a World Cup spot, they must defeat Gernot Rohr’s Cheetahs and also hope South Africa drop points against Rwanda.
Onigbinde, who has managed the Super Eagles twice in the past, expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances despite the difficult situation.
“It’s a pity that we find ourselves in this situation, but I still expect the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Whether or not we are adequately prepared for that is what I don’t know,” Onigbinde told Complete Sports.
“The players must do the needful first against Benin and hope for favours elsewhere,” he added.
Tuesday’s decisive clash is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
