A section of a private rice mill in Birnin Kebbi has collapsed, killing one staff member and leaving five others trapped under the metal wreckage, authorities reported.
At the time of the incident, rescue operations were ongoing, with teams from the Kebbi State Fire Service and Government Emergency Response actively working to free the trapped individuals.
The Kebbi State Government expressed deep sympathy to the management and staff of NIA-AGRI following the partial collapse of the facility in the state capital.
Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida led a high-level delegation to the site on Tuesday evening to assess the damage and oversee emergency response efforts.
During the visit, the project engineer confirmed the death of one employee and informed the delegation that five workers remained trapped, prompting intensive search and rescue operations.
The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. The Deputy Governor stated that a full investigation would be launched once rescue efforts are concluded.
Kebbi State authorities pledged continued support for the rescue mission, vowing to remain on-site until all affected individuals are safely accounted for.
