The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has pledged a decisive crackdown on kidnappers and their collaborators, warning that individuals who sponsor or support criminal activities in the state will face the full weight of the law once identified.
The governor made this known during a meeting with stakeholders and leaders of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in his office, where discussions focused on security challenges, particularly the recent resurgence of kidnapping for ransom in parts of the state.
Expressing concern over the growing incidents of abduction, Aiyedatiwa revealed that one community in the state had recorded three kidnapping cases within the last two months—an alarming trend he described as deeply troubling.
He stressed that his administration would not tolerate any form of criminality and assured residents that security agencies have been directed to intensify efforts to track down perpetrators and their sponsors.
The governor also called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and parents to play an active role in curbing crime by guiding and cautioning youths against engaging in unlawful activities.
Referring to a recent protest by youths in the Ilu-Abo area, who blocked a major road junction in response to the kidnapping incidents, Aiyedatiwa noted that representatives of the community’s landlords’ association had met with him a day earlier. He said the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss practical steps to strengthen security and prevent further criminal attacks in the area.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to restore confidence and maintain peace in affected communities.
