Award-winning Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has highlighted the indispensable role of women in Nigeria’s film industry, praising their entrepreneurial spirit and multi-faceted contributions.
In a trending interview with Naija FM 102.7, shared on YouTube, Omotola said women have been sustaining Nollywood from its early days. “Women are the ones who hold this industry, right from the start. Women are mostly the producers. Women are the ones who hold Nollywood really,” she noted.
She further emphasized that female actors often manage multiple business ventures alongside their acting careers. “I don’t know any female actor, even small ones who just entered this industry, that don’t get at least like three or four businesses,” she said. “A lot of the females get businesses. They run different things. Most of them are influencers. They are doing acting, modelling, they have shops.”
Omotola also discussed the unique pressures women face in the industry, pointing out that female actors receive more intense attention from admirers than their male counterparts. “Male actors too dey try, but I don’t think it’s as intense as the women. Women get admirers. Men too get admirers wey dey help them, but women have more,” she explained.
Despite receiving gifts and attention even as a married woman, Omotola reaffirmed her husband’s confidence in their relationship. “My husband is the most secure. How you go marry Omosexy and you no go dey secure. My husband is the most secure human being you will ever meet,” she said.
Married for over two decades, Omotola continues to be celebrated not only for her acting talent but also for her influence, business acumen, and advocacy for trust, balance, and stability within Nollywood.
Through her reflections, Omotola underscores the vital contributions of women in shaping Nigeria’s film industry, both on and off the screen.
