Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared candid advice for couples facing rejection from a partner’s family, urging them to approach such situations with patience, but also realism.
Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, the actress encouraged individuals to make genuine efforts to build understanding with disapproving relatives. She said consistent engagement and openness can sometimes soften resistance.
According to her, some families form early opinions based on preconceived ideas, including ethnic background or personal bias. In such cases, she noted, even sincere efforts may not immediately change entrenched views.
Omotola explained that while dialogue and perseverance are important, not every opposition can be resolved. She cautioned that entering marriage without family backing can add avoidable strain to an already demanding commitment.
Marriage, she stressed, is a lifelong journey that requires emotional resilience and support. Starting out amid hostility, she warned, could make the path significantly more challenging.
The actress advised couples to think carefully before proceeding with relationships where disapproval remains firm. In her view, support systems matter deeply, and building a union in an atmosphere of acceptance provides a stronger foundation.
While acknowledging that some families may eventually reconsider their stance, she described such changes as uncertain. Ultimately, she encouraged couples to weigh their decisions thoughtfully, noting that love alone may not be enough to navigate sustained opposition.
