“With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather—Olusegun Awolowo,” the family said, describing him as “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.”
The statement praised Awolowo’s lifelong commitment to public service, calling him “a painfully loyal servant to Nigeria” who worked with “vision, integrity, passion and unwavering commitment.”
“He loved his family. He loved his work. He loved his country. And he lived every day with purpose, humility, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him,” the family added.
They noted that while they are “shattered by this loss,” they remain grateful for his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
The family also announced that they will be receiving condolences at his residence daily from 2pm to 4pm.
