President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed the nation’s capital for Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the coronation ceremony of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
The President’s aircraft took off from the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Friday, accompanied by top government officials and presidential aides.
Upon arrival in Ibadan, President Tinubu is expected to lead an array of distinguished guests, including state governors, traditional rulers, ministers, and members of the National Assembly, to the historic Mapo Hall the ceremonial venue for the formal installation and presentation of the Staff and Instrument of Office to the new monarch.
Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and prominent statesman, ascended the throne following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025.
The President’s presence at the coronation underscores the national significance of the event and the enduring importance of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s socio-cultural and political fabric.
Security has been heightened across key areas of Ibadan, especially around Mapo Hall and adjoining routes, in anticipation of the high-profile event. Thousands of residents, cultural enthusiasts, and well-wishers have also thronged the city to witness the historic coronation, which is expected to blend deep-rooted Yoruba tradition with a modern sense of state ceremony.
Oba Ladoja’s emergence as Olubadan has been widely welcomed across the state, with many expressing optimism that his reign will bring unity, progress, and further elevate the stature of Ibadan both nationally and internationally.
