Flamingos head coach Bankole Olowookere has expressed disappointment following his team’s elimination from the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria crashed out of the tournament after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Italy in their Round of 16 clash on Tuesday night in Rabat, Morocco.
Despite putting up a spirited performance, the Flamingos were undone by poor finishing, while a first-half goal was disallowed by VAR for offside before Italy took full control of the game.
Speaking after the match, Olowookere admitted it was a painful result for his young side.
“Honestly, it’s quite painful. We came into the game with the mindset of doing something special, making sure that we win and progress to the next stage,” he told FIFA.com.
“Unfortunately, we held the game for 44 minutes before the painful goal came in, and it was all squandered in the second half. It’s one of those things.”
The loss ended Nigeria’s hopes of advancing further in the competition.
