Nigerian rap star Olamide has clarified a long-standing misconception about his personality, stating that he is not shy, just naturally laid back.
Speaking during an appearance on the Ada’s Room podcast, the YBNL boss said many people assume his calm demeanour comes from a lack of confidence. According to him, that interpretation is far from the truth.
“One thing I wish people understood about me is I am not shy, I am just laid back,” he said.
When asked to distinguish between both traits, Olamide explained that shyness involves struggling to make eye contact or engage in conversations due to low confidence. His own quietness, he added, is intentional, a way to avoid unnecessary interactions.
“Shy is when you don’t have the confidence and charisma to stand people or look them in the eye or have conversations with them. But being laid back is you just don’t want to be bothered. People think I am shy but I am not,” he said.
The rapper’s comments provide rare insight into his personal disposition, often overshadowed by his energetic music persona.
