The unravelling of the multi-billion shilling oil scandal has heightened political tensions, with leaders now seizing on the saga to settle scores.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has turned its focus to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, linking him to an alleged shadowy financier based in Mombasa said to be connected to the scandal.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar accused Gachagua of advancing the interests of what he described as a “Mombasa-based benefactor” allegedly tied to the controversial oil dealings.
“All of you who have been watching Wamunyoro, he has always demonstrated wanting intellectual faculties to understand even very basic concepts, but for this one, he is fairly eloquent because he has been prepped to divert the investigations and to benefit those perpetrating this massive economic crime,” he said.
In the same statement, UDA dismissed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a “pseudo-expert,” accusing him, alongside Gachagua, of misleading the public on the scandal.
