Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has celebrated the remarkable academic achievement of Jeremiah Ekuma, the Lagos traffic hawker who rose to fame in 2022 for an extraordinary act of kindness.
Jeremiah became a viral sensation when he was filmed handing out cash to inmates inside a Nigerian Correctional Service van in Ajah, Lagos. The clip, which spread rapidly across social media, won him widespread admiration and eventually brought him to the attention of Obi Cubana.
Following the incident, Jeremiah was offered financial support and business opportunities. But instead of choosing quick gains, he decided to pursue his education, enrolling to complete his law degree at Ebonyi State University.
Sharing the update on Instagram, Obi Cubana praised Jeremiah’s foresight and resilience.
“On January 19, 2022, when opportunities were placed before you, you chose education! You made the best choice. Today, you are a 2025 law graduate,” he wrote.
The socialite applauded Jeremiah’s determination to trade short-term comfort for a long-term investment in knowledge, describing his story as proof of how education can transform lives.
From hawking goods on the streets of Lagos to emerging as a law graduate, Jeremiah’s journey has become a source of inspiration across Nigeria.
Cubana ended his post with words of encouragement: “Congratulations Jerry, the world is yours!”
