Lawmakers vote to formalize leadership following former chairman’s resignation over health issues.
Son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has been confirmed as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government, following the resignation of Tunde Azeez due to persistent health challenges.
Azeez, who had been on medical leave barely a month after his administration began on July 27, 2025, formally stepped down on Wednesday. His resignation letter was read by the Leader of the House, Adeshina Haruna, during plenary at the Agege Council Chamber. Lawmakers unanimously voted to confirm Abdul-Ganiyu, who had been acting in the role, as substantive chairman.
Council legislators emphasized the decision was aimed at avoiding a leadership vacuum and sustaining ongoing administrative projects. They also commended Azeez for his contributions and wished him a full recovery.
In his acceptance remarks, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa pledged to consolidate ongoing initiatives, deepen collaboration with community stakeholders, and improve service delivery in Agege.
During the same session, council members reviewed committee structures and oversight operations, stressing the need for enhanced transparency, accountability, and monitoring of developmental projects.
