Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that the Boko Haram insurgency is increasingly becoming a routine part of Nigerian life, urging the nation to adopt stronger, more critical strategies to confront it.
Obasanjo gave the charge on Friday in Abuja at the public presentation of Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum, a book authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (rtd.).
The former president stressed the need for Nigerians to re-examine their approach to the crisis, insisting that complacency would only deepen the threat.
“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do?
How much do we know — from their side and from our side? Have we been active enough? Have we been proactive enough?
We must ask ourselves the necessary questions to deal with this monster that is now growing within our country.”
The event drew prominent figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, current and past service chiefs, state governors, and religious leaders.
