The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Ekiti Queens, including a ₦2.5 million fine and the relocation of their home games, following the reported assault of match officials during their home match against Edo Queens on Wednesday.
Ekiti Queens suffered a 1-0 defeat in the Matchday Three encounter, with Atume Doosuur netting the decisive goal for Edo Queens in the 67th minute.
The NWFL released a statement describing the incident as a serious breach of league safety and conduct regulations.
As part of the disciplinary measures, Ekiti Queens will be required to play their next three home games at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, effectively moving their base away from Ekiti State for these crucial fixtures.
The league body stressed that these penalties are specifically intended to function as a strong deterrent for all clubs participating across the league.
Ekiti Queens’ performance this season has been challenging; the club has yet to secure a victory in the NWFL, currently holding a record of one draw and two losses.
