The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has deployed 5,249 trained ad-hoc personnel for the conduct of the state’s local government elections scheduled for November 1, 2025.
NSIEC Chairman, Jibrin Imam, made this known on Thursday during the distribution of election-sensitive materials in Minna.
Imam revealed that all non-sensitive materials had already been dispatched to the 25 Local Government Electoral Officers (EOs), while sensitive materials were being distributed early to prevent any unforeseen logistical challenges.
“The materials are being distributed across 4,950 polling units, 274 wards, and the 25 local government areas, covering both councillorship and chairmanship positions,” he said. “In every polling unit, ward and local government area, we have ad-hoc personnel on ground serving as returning officers, supervisors and polling clerks.”
He stressed that the commission strictly followed all constitutional procedures in preparing for the elections, noting that there have been no complaints from political parties, security agencies, election observers, or other stakeholders.
Imam urged political parties and their candidates to uphold the peace accord they signed, assuring that NSIEC will ensure a level playing field for all contestants and remains open to receiving and addressing legitimate complaints.
He also assured voters that no eligible citizen will be disenfranchised, adding that arrangements have been made to enable residents affected by banditry to participate in the elections.
Boats have been provided in riverine communities to facilitate the movement of both election materials and officials to ensure voting takes place seamlessly in those areas.
The NSIEC chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to delivering a credible and transparent local government election across the state.
