Commandant Olusola Odumosu of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, has called on personnel to demonstrate heightened commitment and professionalism in preparation for the upcoming FCT Area Council Elections set for February 21, 2026, a Statement by the FCT Spokesperson of the Corps, DSC Monica Ojobi revealed.
During a strategic management meeting held at the Command’s Headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Odumosu reviewed the achievements of 2025 and outlined a comprehensive security roadmap for the upcoming year. He emphasized the Corps’ pivotal role in maintaining electoral integrity, stating, “Our responsibility in the upcoming elections is non-negotiable, particularly in safeguarding INEC staff, voters, and electoral materials.”
With the elections approaching, Odumosu issued a firm reminder for officers to maintain neutrality and avoid partisan involvement. “Protecting INEC staff, both sensitive and non-sensitive materials, and ensuring the safety of the electorate before, during, and after the elections is essential,” he stressed.
The Commandant also urged officers currently training with INEC to strictly adhere to established protocols and declared a “zero-tolerance” policy towards corruption and any form of compromise during the electoral process.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of the past year, Odumosu praised the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) department for its effective 24-hour patrols, which resulted in multiple arrests of vandals. Despite these successes, he acknowledged that the work is far from complete.
To enhance security measures, Odumosu called on Divisional Officers and Area Commanders to bolster surveillance efforts and strengthen collaborations with traditional rulers to improve intelligence gathering and community engagement.
”We must refrain from mediocrity and overzealousness, but remain committed to justifying the responsibility bestowed on us by government with improved appetite for results,” he said.
The Commandant also addressed the political climate, appealing to candidates and their supporters to avoid violence.
He warned that any attempts to disrupt the peace would be met with the full “wrath of the law,” asserting that the success of the February election is a priority for the Command.
As the election date nears, the NSCDC remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure electoral environment for all stakeholders involved.
