
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its full support for Team Nigeria ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships scheduled to hold in Tokyo from September 13 to 21.
In a statement on Thursday, Kola Daniel, media aide to NSC Director-General Bukola Olopade, said the athletes had the backing of the commission and millions of Nigerians.
“From the beginning, the NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, declared that Nigeria must get it right in athletics. This is a moment of pride. We trust our athletes to compete with determination and secure podium finishes,” Olopade stated.
He added that he would be on ground in Tokyo to provide frontline support to the 15-member contingent.
Team Nigeria, led by world record holder Tobi Amusan and long jump star Ese Brume, will feature in sprints, jumps, throws, and hurdles.

Nigeria is hoping to improve on its 2022 World Championships success, where Amusan won gold and set a world record of 12.12s in the 100m hurdles, while Brume claimed silver in the long jump.
