The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed heavy sanctions on Kano Pillars Football Club following violent scenes during their Matchday 8 home fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
In a statement signed by Davidson Owumi, NPFL Chief Operating Officer, on Monday, October 13, the league found Kano Pillars guilty of several rule breaches, including failure to provide adequate security, poor crowd control, assault on players and officials, and bringing the game into disrepute.
As part of the sanctions, the club will pay a total fine of ₦9.5 million, face a three-point and three-goal deduction, and have their home ground closed indefinitely. The Sani Abacha Stadium will remain shut, with the club ordered to play its next ten home matches in Katsina or another NPFL-approved venue.
The fines include: ₦1,000,000 for poor security arrangements, ₦1,000,000 for throwing dangerous objects, ₦1,000,000 for failure to control supporters, ₦1,000,000 for conduct bringing the league into disrepute, ₦2,000,000 for assault on away players and officials, ₦2,000,000 as compensation for victims, and ₦1,500,000 as additional payment to match officials.
The NPFL further directed the club to identify and prosecute perpetrators of the violence and submit proof of enhanced crowd control measures within seven working days.
Failure to comply or submit a valid appeal within 48 hours, the statement warned, could attract further disciplinary action from the league body.
