The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially confirmed the disciplinary measures against Wikki Tourists’ goalkeeper, Godswill Utim, following his dismissal during recent league action. The decision comes after Utim was sent off with a straight red card during the “Bauchi Elephants” competitive 2-2 stalemate against Enyimba this past Sunday.
As a result of this administrative ratification, the goalkeeper is set to serve a three-match ban, effectively ruling him out of the club’s upcoming fixtures against Bayelsa United, Bendel Insurance, and Ikorodu City. This absence presents a significant selection challenge for the technical crew as they navigate a crucial stretch of the season without their primary shot-stopper.
The league’s governing body has publicly stood by the on-field officiating of center referee Jude Typhoine. Despite vocal disapproval and criticism from the Wikki Tourists’ fanbase regarding the severity of the call, the NPFL maintained that the referee’s intervention was justified according to the rules of the game.
The formal notification of the suspension was delivered to the club via an official memorandum authorized by Stanley Ike-Richard, acting on behalf of the Chief Operating Officer. The communication outlines the specific terms of the ban and the procedural steps following the incident.
However, the Bauchi-based club has not been completely stripped of recourse. The NPFL has granted Wikki Tourists a 24-hour window from the time of the notice to lodge a formal appeal against the ruling if they believe there are grounds for a reversal or reduction of the punishment.
