The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has issued a stern warning to its member clubs over their involvement in youth competitions not officially sanctioned by the league board.
The directive comes after reports that several clubs have been participating in the N-Youth League, a tournament set up for talent discovery.
According to the NPFL, the N-Youth League has no recognition or affiliation with the board. It stressed that only the NPFL and the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, are authorised to organise youth football competitions in the country.
The league organisers also frowned at the idea of top-flight clubs competing alongside lower-division and amateur sides in the same tournament.
Clubs that disregard the directive, the NPFL warned, risk facing sanctions.
