Newly promoted Barau Football Club have named former Lobi Stars administrator, Dominic Iorfa, as their new General Manager, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
In a statement signed by Media Director Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, Barau FC said Iorfa would oversee the team’s management, while Alhaji Kabiru Baita has been appointed Vice President.
“Dominic brings a wealth of expertise from the Nigerian football industry, with a proven track record in strategic leadership, talent development, and elite performance. We are confident that his vision will elevate our club both on and off the pitch,” the club said.
The appointment comes as Barau FC, owned by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, restructure their management in their debut NPFL season. The team currently sit bottom of the table with two draws and two defeats from their opening four games.
Iorfa’s return to football administration, however, is likely to spark debate. A Benue State government forensic audit previously accused him of financial impropriety during his time at Lobi Stars, directing the refund of nearly ₦1.8 billion allegedly linked to his tenure.
But Iorfa has consistently denied wrongdoing, insisting he was wrongly accused and instead claimed the state government owes him over ₦400 million. He also argued that administrative bottlenecks under Governor Hyacinth Alia disrupted club funding.
Despite the controversy, Barau FC leadership say they believe in Iorfa’s experience and are backing him to guide the Kano-based side through the challenges of top-flight football.
