When they say, God’s timing is the best, it now makes perfect sense.
When I first discovered I was pregnant, I will never forget the trepidation with which I watched my belly grow. In the first few weeks, I almost caused myself problems as I feared to eat anything, lest the baby became too big and impossible for me to push out.
In fact, for the first two trimesters, my fear of what waited for me in the labour ward almost suffocated the joy of meeting my unborn baby. But in the third trimester, something changed.
The pregnancy was beyond heavy. My body had trans- formed beyond recognition; my nose was huge and my lips looked like someone had just punched them. I did not care anymore how the baby would come out, I just wanted it out!
Outwardly, I was waddling painfully into the labour ward on D-day, but inside? I was hop-skipping. That is God’s timing for you. For everything He has in store for us, when the timing is perfectly His, there is no fear and no stress.
If it is God’s timing for you to own a car, you will never know how you fuel it or maintain it, regardless the economic turmoil. Ask women about menopause. When you tell a girl in her 20s that she should prepare for menopause, she will most likely send thunder-fire your way.
But in her forties as she grapples with the complexities of peri-menopause, don’t be surprised to overhear her praying: “Dear God, please let this be the last month I see my menstrual blood!”
When it is God’s time to stop, there are no regrets. Even death, when someone has lived their full life as intended by God, there is no fear of death. My sister’s mother-in-law lived a full, long life and towards the end, she would regularly suffer strokes and stay unconscious for hours.
It was hilarious that whenever she came to, she would peep at the world apprehensively, clearly hoping that she had finally crossed over, only to see her caretaker’s worried face.
She would then throw a childlike tantrum over the fact that she had not died. She was done. It was God’s timing. Be it marriage, parenthood… Done God’s way with the right people, they are easy and fun. The other way round? Good luck. Pray for God’s perfect timing.
